Learning thangka painting is not easy. From the basic start with a leaf, proportion and balance is strictly scrupulous.
Students are required to follow the most traditional way of learning. For the first year, all student are required to practice only on a wooden board (a blackboard-like wooden board) with a sharp bamboo stick to draw over, instead of using paper and pencil. It is a very good practice for a very steady hand. Which students are required to draw very clean line without smirching the power on the side. It is not only to practice the mindfulness and awareness, but also along with the development of patience.
To expect the entire student not only will graduate with a perfect knowledge of this linage, but also with the full skill of a thangka painter should have. Students are required to study not only the basic deity drawing, method of coloring, and also need to study the brief history of thangka and Buddha dharma( Buddhism text). There are two examinations which student required attending per year to keep their quality of drawing.
A full course required 4 years which will provide a thangka painter certificate in the end. Short course or part-time courses also provided for the convenience of foreign student.
